Simplicity has a way of revealing what is most important to a person. In this passage, Jesus simplifies all of the Old Testament laws, the guidelines of his people’s religion, down to the two “greatest” commands: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” As we begin this new year, we want to simplify our lives around these two compelling commands that radically shift what we prioritize on a daily basis. Together, we’ll find that the simple way of Jesus isn’t always easy, but it’s exactly what our souls need.
