As we conclude this series, we are reminded of the tension Paul felt on living out this life of freedom. Even with our best intentions and purest motivations, there is sin deep within us that seeks to take charge. This life of freedom is not something we can perform our way into- we cannot will or work our way into righteousness. Only Jesus can, and Jesus does. He has set things right- and this path of freedom is nothing without him. Jesus wants to free us in every way from the sin that captivates us, even the sin of believing we can save ourselves, the sin of believing we could ever earn our freedom. Those who live in true freedom know that it is only Jesus that frees. We don’t live this life as performance for him, but as an offering before him.
