Marriage, in a biblical sense, creates a unique oneness between a husband and a wife. Each of them retain their individual personalities and qualities, but Paul points out in 1 Corinthians 7 that there’s a new sort of overlap in a husband’s and a wive’s livelihood… a sort of belonging to one another. Sex in many cases can be a microcosm of a marriage as a whole. What would it look like if spouses embraced a spirit of generosity in regards to the sexual desires, needs, and limitations of their spouse? A generous, thoughtful, sacrificial sex life between a husband and a wife can strengthen the bond of marriage and can serve as an example of the unique oneness between God wants to have with His people.
