“A happy marriage is the union of two good forgivers”-Ruth Graham Bell. Without grace and forgiveness, a marriage inevitably leads to divorce, life-long bitterness, or emotionally numb resignation. When facing conflict, spouses can draw upon previous experiences with their spouse to conjure up the will to forgive. But often, this isn’t enough. We need something supernatural to offer grace even when our tank of mercy is empty. We can draw strength to forgive from the good news that God, being “rich in mercy”, forgave us long before he called us to forgive our spouse.
