God and government has always been a touchy subject- even during Paul’s time. In chapter 13 of Romans, Paul shifts his attention to how the Christians in Rome should think about and relate to the government. History shows us that it has long been a subject of discussion for Christians to navigate the tension of living lives of allegiance to Jesus within a government with different priorities. As we enter election season, we want to focus our priorities on the priorities of Jesus that Paul reminds us of through the teaching of Romans 13. Romans 13 is an invitation to Christians in the midst of a secular government to live lives of light and love.
