In some of his final words to his closest friends, Jesus didn't suggest a five-year plan for success or a checklist of things to do. Instead, he offered a metaphor about what the good life really looks like: I am the vine. You are the branches. Abide in me. In other words, “No matter what happens next, the most important thing is to stay connected to me.” For those of us who are going through the motions of life and feel frustrated, weary, or spiritually numb, this message snaps us out of our lifeless routine and calls us to something deeper and more sustainable: An authentic connection to Jesus.
