Isaiah 11 describes Jesus as a shoot that bears fruit growing up from the stump of Jesse. At this point in the story- there was nothing left of God’s vineyard, not even a tree. All that remained was a stump. A branch coming out of a stump is a picture that we are never too far gone for God to restore. Jesus has come to restore- to give purpose and cultivate our lives in such a way that we bear fruit- no matter how far gone things may sometimes seem.
