In the 50s there was a TV show called To Tell the Truth where three participants pretended to be a certain person and the panelists had to guess who was the real one. At the end of the show, the real person was then asked to stand up so they could be identified. And the intention behind this show is good picture of what we want for our lives- we want what’s real. We don’t want counterfeit- we want to know what is true and to be able to stand with confidence on that. And while some of us may know at some intellectual level what’s true about God and what God has said about us, that truth so often has a way of getting broken apart in our lives. There sometimes seems to be a gap between knowing what is true about us as believers and living out of that reality. Paul understood this consistent tension, so he opens up the book of Ephesians with a reminder to believers that Jesus is the starting point. In Christ we can find who we truly are and what we are living for.
