In Matthew 25 Jesus shares a parable about ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom to arrive- 5 were prepared for the arrival, while 5 were not. Jesus concludes the parable with these familiar words from Matthew 24, “keep watch.” Jesus’ concern for the disciples is that in their waiting, they could easily grow comfortable, and even more so that in the waiting they lose their urgency. His challenge then is for them and us to be ready- to live in such a way that we still have an urgency in the waiting and are prepared for the arrival of the coming of Christ.
