One of the consistent characteristics of Jesus throughout the gospels is His love and joy and we see this theme again in his concluding words to the disciples. In verse 11 Jesus says, “I’ve told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!” In the highs and lows, Jesus had a way of remaining filled with the love and joy of God in a way that overflowed to everyone around Him. As He sits with His disciples in John 15, he reminds them that following Him will bring trouble, but reassures them that connecting to Him will produce a rooted life regardless of the storms. Whatever the disciples faced, they should not be overcomeby what might overwhelm, but live overwhelmed with His overflow.
