Today, so many people in our culture are divided over their political opinions and affiliations. In Paul’s day, people were divided over ... meat. An animal would be sacrificed to a false god, and then the meat would be sold at the market. Some Christians believed eating the meat was tantamount to participating in the false religion it had been used by, while others found no issue with it.
How were the Christians back then to handle these intense differences of opinion?
Acceptance.
Paul writes, “Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters” and “Who are you to judge someone else’s servant?” and “You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt?”
Today, we have a host of issues that divide people, and specifically divide Christians. As we dive into Romans 14, we are invited to practice unity through accepting one another the way that Jesus has accepted us.
