From the series Never Going Back
Naaman was met by Elisha’s servant with a simple next step toward healing and initially refused it. It was embarrassing to him, it didn’t make a lot of sense, it required him to humble himself from his place of honor and receive the healing how God had offered it. His pride and independence coupled with who he had always been had gotten the best of him. But from the encouraging words of a servant, Naaman quickly realized that a deeper healing was on the other side of humility. Not just a healing of what is on the surface, but a healing that was beyond his own comprehension or logic. Too many years Naaman had been spent becoming someone he never meant to become, and one act of repentance, one willing pivot toward obedience transformed Naaman’s life forever. As a church, we are never going back to the versions of ourselves that once trusted in. Instead, we want to step with both feet in to the process of repentance, humility, and healing God is offering us.
